Dojo destroyed by fire

The last thing we expected to wake up to this Sunday morning was a phone call to say that the St. Andrews church hall was on fire.  Unfortunately that's exactly what did happen.

Some kind person (or people) decided to burn our beloved dojo of nearly 10 years to the ground, so thanks to them we have lost everything - our Shinden,  our training equipment and all our photographs, including ones of the Sensei from our Shorin-ryu lineage.

Luckily for us we have had the offer to use the Christ Church dojo, so we owe Father Neil Chatfield  our warmest thanks for his help. Classes will be held there on the normal nights at the normal times so it's just a change of venue.

Please try your best to use the Christ Church facilities so that your training is disrupted as little as possible.

Kobudo training

Five members of the dojo travelled to Wembley, London recently to train under the world renown karate and kobudo teacher Jamal Measara, Sensei (Sukunaihayashi style of karate-do).  The course was based, in the main, around bo techniques and proved a really interesting day for us all.

Thank you to Ganesh Sensei for organising this opportunity and, of course, thank you to Measara Sensei - we look forward to training with you once again  in the very near future.

 Visitor from Australia

We were lucky enough to be joined by Reece Cummings, Sensei for a class in Eastbourne on New Years Day this year.   Cummings Sensei runs a Matsubayash-ryu dojo in the Canberra area of Australia but dropped in to train with us while on a holiday in Europe.  He travelled down to us from London and we spent the evening covering many aspects of the Matsubayashi-ryu syllabus, taking in kihon, kata and yakusoku kumite.

We are grateful for the insights into his training back home, and the advice he was able to impart about his visit to Okinawa last August.  See below for a photo taken after our training session...
